Calling all Blockheads! This year will have all the LEGO fun you could hope for, and building competitions for all ages. Check below for official rules and information.
The LEGO area will be in the Alumni Room on the third floor of the UWEC Davies Student Center.
The LEGO building competitions will be held in the Ojibwe Ballroom, near the Exhibitor & Vendor area.
The LEGO room at GEEKcon has been a favorite space for many people year after year. This year we will have a room displaying builds from local talent, as well as building competitions for three different age brackets.
Sign up for the competition during the day at GEEKcon, or just enjoy the cubic creations of others as you attend the con.
If you have any questions feel free to email GEEKcon@uwec.edu or ask at the front table of the Ojibwe Ballroom.
And always remember, BLOCKHEADS ROCK!
Official Rules
Eligibility: No immediate family of any Blockheads member is eligible for the grand prizes but may still participate in the competition. Contestants must be seven (7) years or older. Children between the ages of seven (7) to twelve (12) years old must have a parent or guardian present to register.
Date, Time, and Location: The contest will run heats throughout the day of the GEEKcon 2021 event on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, between 10AM and when the last heat starts at 3:30PM. The heats will be held in the Ojibwe Ballroom on the third floor of the W.R. Davies Center at UW-Eau Claire.
Registration and Cost: There is no entry fee to compete, but a monetary or non-perishable food donation to Campus Harvest Food Pantry is greatly appreciated. Sign-up sheets to participate in the Blockheads GEEKcon 2021 Build Contest will be at the GEEKcon’s main information table on the third floor outside of the Ojibwe Ballroom. Registration will be first come first served since there is a limited number of build seats per heat.
Objective: Participants will be given fifteen (15) minutes to build an original My Own Creation (MOC) based on the theme determined by the Blockheads members. Each creation will then be judged by the Blockheads. Each participant will use and identical set of LEGO bricks to build their MOC.
Judging Criteria: Entries will be judged using a scale from 1-10 in each of the following categories:
• Quality of build
• Creativity
• Complexity
• Use/interpretation of theme
• Overall appearance
In the event of a tie score, the Blockheads will ask an additional member of the Blockheads or GEEKcon staff to make the winning decision(s).
Prizes: There are three different age brackets for this contest and one (1) grand prize winner will be selected from each. The grand prize winner is the contestant within each of the three age brackets below that had the highest judging score.
• Seven (7) through twelve (12) years old
• Thirteen (13) through seventeen (17) years old
• Eighteen (18) years and older
The grand prize winner from each age bracket will be given a new LEGO Trophy #40385 valued at $12.99 USD. Need not be present to win and one of the Blockheads will contact winners to arrange delivery of the grand prize.
Privacy Statement: Any information or data collected at the time of registration will only be used to contact winners of the contest.
Consent to Release Images: Each MOC of the contest will be photographed and the Blockheads will retain ownership rights to all images taken as part of the contest by Blockheads members or GEEKcon staff. Participating in the contest means that you agree to allow the Blockheads and GEEKcon to use these images in future marketing or media without restriction.
